Bruce Tait


Bruce Tait has worked in the voluntary sector for over 25 years and has recently been named as a Fellow of the Institute of Fundraising. Following roles as Director of Fundraising and Chief Executive at several national charities, Bruce set up Bruce Tait Associates in 2007 to help charities find and recruit great staff. Having recruited extensively throughout the UK and Ireland, including for Glasgow Science Centre, V&A at Dundee, National Museums of Scotland, and The Burrell Collection, Bruce joined with Victoria Symes in 2015 to set up Charity Careers North West. Bruce is a former Chair of the Institute of Fundraising Scotland and a Trustee of Developing World Health, Scottish Outdoor Education Centres and Falkirk Football Community Foundation.

Victoria Symes


Victoria Symes has spent over 15 years helping not for profits in the charity, education, heritage and arts sectors develop their strategic and fundraising capacity. As a senior fundraiser and more recently a strategic consultant, organisations she has worked with include the Science Museum, English Heritage, the British Film Institute, the University of Liverpool, Everyman & Playhouse Liverpool, FACT and the Geffrye Museum of the Home. She has helped organisations recruit and develop new staff, most recently for Huntington’s Disease Association, Salford Women’s Aid and St. Ann’s Hospice in Manchester. Victoria is on the Institute of Fundraising Cultural Sector and North West Committees, a board member of St George’s Hall Charitable Trust, and Chair of Action Transport Theatre.

Norma Young

Development Manager

Norma joined Charity Careers North West as our Development Manager in January 2018. Norma has a voluntary sector and management background working with not for profit organisations for over 20 years. Since joining us Norma has been involved in the recruitment of staff for Huntington’s Disease Association, LCVS, North West Cancer Research and The Birchwood Centre. Norma has a wealth of experience in fundraising and management, she has worked extensively with health organisations and small charities both in house and as a consultant, developing strategy, increasing fundraising revenue as well as managing and developing staff teams. Norma is also an active committee member of The Institute of Fundraising North West.

Karen Crowder

Office Administrator

Karen Crowder worked for a commercial company for ten years and was instrumental in attracting, recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce with great success. She moved into the third sector in 2008 working for a national charity in the role of office manager where, over the next decade, she honed her skills and became the primary contact for families, the general public and potential employers. Her role as office manager had a hands-on approach participating in the recruitment, retention and development of staff for the charity. Karen was key in the organisation, promoting and planning for the many events and activities hosted by the charity. She is thrilled to have joined the team at Charity Careers North West.

Heather de Groot


Heather has been working in marketing and communications for over ten years, with a particular focus on stakeholder engagement and brand management. After completing her Media Degree and Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma, she started her career as a Marketing Executive in the third sector. As well as qualifications in media and marketing she is also a qualified NLP Practitioner and has experience in event management, coaching, sales and corporate fundraising.
