About St George’s Hall

St George’s Hall is widely regarded as one of the finest neo-classical buildings in the world and is a Grade I listed building. It was reopened in 2007 by Prince Charles after a £23m refurbishment programme.

Built in the early 1800s as a space for music festivals and the Civil and Crown courts, the Hall has always been at the heart of community life in the city. Today the Hall plays host to a fascinating heritage centre, special exhibitions, concerts, tours and talks, corporate events and weddings.

As one of Liverpool’s most treasured heritage assets, St George’s Hall is owned and managed by Liverpool City Council, and safeguarded by the St George’s Hall Charitable Trust, an independent registered charity established to protect and enable the Hall’s future through fundraising, advocacy and leadership. Together they work to ensure that St George’s Hall is a fitting celebration of Liverpool’s past, present and future – open to everyone.

This is an exciting time for St George’s Hall; its profile and reach are growing, and the City Council and Charitable Trust are now poised to submit a major Heritage Lottery Fund application to further develop its heritage spaces. They have a number of existing funding relationships in place and a skilled and dedicated board poised to take their fundraising forward with the right support and expert guidance. They have recently secured a number of major gifts and are planning a fundraising event and a series of funding applications to trusts and foundations to support both their capital and education work.

About the Head of Development

The Trust is now seeking to recruit an experienced and skilled Head of Development to lead on the charitable and philanthropic fundraising for the Hall. Reporting to the Trustees and working alongside the City Council’s management team, this senior position will have responsibility for developing and implementing the Trust’s fundraising strategy for the Hall across a variety of philanthropic and sponsorship income streams. As Head of Development, you will lead on the progression of high level applications to trusts and foundations, approaches to major donors and companies.

If you are passionate about the role of heritage in a thriving city region, enjoy using your high level relationship-building, communication and writing skills to meet fundraising targets, and have proven, direct experience of successfully asking trusts, foundations, major donors and/or corporate supporters to give philanthropic support in a not-for-profit environment, this role is for you.

This brand new role for St George’s Hall is initially offered on a 6-month contract with great potential for extension.
