The Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA) is the leading national charity working to improve care and support for people and their families affected by Huntington’s. The charity is committed to educating families and professionals about this rare and complex disease.

Huntington’s Disease is a degenerative disorder that involves progressive mental deterioration, significant behavioural changes and severe physical incapacity, which there is no cure for. This general lack of coordination in speech and body movement has drastically affected many individuals.

Based in central Liverpool, this is an exciting time to join the charity as the recent research breakthrough has meant an increase in the media’s attention and therefore contributed to the increased awareness of this inherited disorder.

About the Head of Fundraising Role

Have you got a wealth of fundraising knowledge and experience gained in the charity sector?

As Head of Fundraising, you will work closely with the Chief Executive to consolidate and grow the charity’s fundraising income by developing and implementing a fundraising strategy across a number of income streams.

This is a rare opportunity to join a much-loved family-focussed charity as their first ever Head of Fundraising.

For the past 25 years, Alder Hey Family House Trust (affectionately known to the families it supports as ‘Mac House’) has provided the parents and siblings of children staying in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with a home away from home close to their sick child, during an incredibly difficult period.

Mac House gets its name from one of its largest supporters and partners, the Ronald McDonald Charity, and is situated in the grounds of Alder Hey Hospital, but is an entirely independent charity with it owns board of Trustees, strategic direction and loyal following of supporters.

This is an exciting time for the charity - in the last few years they have gained a new Chair and Chief Executive who are bringing a new energy to their plans, and throughout 2018 they are celebrating their 25th Anniversary.

The charity benefits from the fundraising efforts of a strong regular following of families, event participants, and local companies, and has taken the decision to invest in a new senior role to take Mac House’s fundraising to the next stage of growth.

Who we are looking for

As Head of Fundraising, you will be tasked with diversifying, consolidating and growing the charity’s fundraising income, working closely with the board and fundraising committee to do so.

You will have proven experience of raising funds from corporate, community, trusts and foundations or individuals in a not for profit context, and will be able to draw on your strong negotiation skills, a head for strategy, and a confident approach to your work. You will be able to communicate well on all levels, from managing and developing a small team, to holding your own with a senior corporate supporter, to articulating a more complex cause to donors.

You will be comfortable working within a small and friendly charity environment, making creative use of limited resources and happy to chip in on reception when the House team needs your help!

Above all you will have a passion for using your skills to make a difference to families in their greatest time of need.

An exciting position has opened up at a much loved local charity on the Wirral. The chance to join and shape this expanding and inspiring team will give you the chance to move quickly on new ideas and plans to grow Stick ‘n’ Step’s services and reach.

Cerebral palsy is a condition that affects muscle control and movement. It is usually caused by an injury to the brain before, during or after birth. Children with cerebral palsy have difficulties in controlling muscles and movements as they grow and develop.

Stick ‘n’ Step offer free weekly conductive education sessions to children and young people from across the North West. Delivered from their specialised centres in Wirral and Runcorn, the sessions are designed to help each a child to reach their personal potential regarding their confidence, mobility and independence. This recently refreshed role has been re-scoped and repositioned to strategically focus on growing the charity’s annual fundraising target from £680k to £775k over the next three years.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will manage three direct reports (Corporate and Events Fundraiser, Community and Corporate Fundraiser and a part-time senior fundraiser).

Stick ‘n’ Step is completely independent and receives all of its funding from the generosity of local people, communities, businesses and grant making trusts. They work with 72 children and families on a weekly basis during term time, and it costs in the region of £4,500 per child per year to offer their services. Stick ‘n’ Step’s focus for the future (and for this role) is to expand their income streams across trusts and foundations, individual giving, events, community and corporate.

Who we are looking for

As a passionate fundraising professional you will be target driven and motivated to seek out new opportunities to grow fundraising revenue. You will have a strong understanding of a diverse range of income streams with demonstrable strategic work growing a culture of development and long-term donor engagement.

In particular, Stick ‘n’ Step is looking for strengths in bid-writing, people management and the ability to combined leadership with hands-on fundraising, across a small team. You will also communicate well on all levels, from managing and developing your team to holding your own with a senior corporate supporter, to articulating your aims to the Board.

You will be impactful, supportive and show genuine empathy with the families supported by Stick ‘n’ Step, passionately using your skills to make a difference to children and young people with Cerebral Palsy.
