About the Charity

Doctor Kershaw’s Hospice was opened in 1989 thanks to a legacy from Dr. John Kershaw, a local GP. The hospice has since expanded and been redeveloped several times to offer high quality patient accommodation and professional facilities for all staff.

The hospice provides specialist palliative care for adults with non-curable, life-limiting illnesses in a peaceful and homely environment. Doctor Kershaw’s is an independent hospice and relies heavily on fundraising activities, donations, legacies, retail income and its charity lottery. A much-loved institution in Oldham, Doctor Kershaw’s serves a population of over 220,000 people and has touched the lives of so many people in the town and surrounding areas.

About the role of Head of Income Generation

A key senior leadership position, you will be responsible for strategically overseeing all fundraising activity across the charity and building valuable relationships. As the lead person for all income generation activity, you will enjoy overall responsibility for the management and development of all aspects of appeal/fundraising activities and initiatives, including communications and publicity services.

This is a vital role for the charity at a very important time. A capital appeal has been launched and could benefit from a highly experienced charity fundraising leader to drive this forward to successful completion.

About you

You will be an experienced charity fundraising manager, preferably with experience of capital appeals. You will be a positive leader, collaborative partner to colleagues leading other departments and adept at communicating at all levels.

About the Charity

Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice provides day to day care, support and activities to children and young people living with a life limiting illness. Eden Valley Hospice provides care for adults with life limiting illnesses from North Cumbria. Caring for children has always been at the heart of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, with one of the first patients cared for at the hospice being a young child.

In 2014 Eden Valley’s children hospice was renamed and rebranded to Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice. Together, their mission is to provide palliative care and end of life services for adults, children and young adults with life changing and or life limiting illnesses, through promoting their wellbeing and enabling them and the people who are important to them to live life as fully and independently as possible.

Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice are both part of one charity with a common value base, governance, support services and facilities. In recognition of the different contexts for palliative care in Cumbria of adults and children the hospice introduces the services separately.

About the role of Head of Income Generation

Playing an active role in the Senior Management Team, the Head of Income Generation will help support the growth and success of the Hospice and provide strategic leadership in order to diversify, maximise and sustain charitable income.

You will be an experienced fundraising professional with demonstrable experience in leading and motivating a fundraising team. You will enjoy the overall responsibility for all fundraising activities and be a confident natural communicator capable of cultivating and maintaining key relationships.
